Butte-Full
To start out my Durango mountain bike excursion, I chose to re-ride the only trail I was already familiar with; Twin Buttes.

On Father’s Day, I met with my Brother-In-Law Rick and we rode through his Walnut Creek neighborhood hills on the mountain bikes.
A hot Summer requires occasional respites. We drove to Groveland, CA where we sampled the offerings at Exchequer Bike Park on Lake McClure. It was a fun and interesting day that was filled with some great downhills and great people.
As the proud owner of a new Ibis Ripmo v2, I wanted my first ride to be one for the books. To that end, I called my Patrick, riding buddy, and we met at the Soquel Demonstration Forest lot to ride the Flow Trail.
Our climb up to Pilot Rock was an exercise in pain and endurance. My legs were shot by the previous day’s 16+ mile ride with over 2000 feet of climbing up steep inclines and over rocky, rooty obstacles. Pilot Rock was an ascent that, to put mildly, hurt. But the payoff was worth the effort!
My Brother Pete and I have been riding together for a long time. It was a great break to be able to ride mountain with Pete. Rancho Canada Del Oro was the perfect spot!
With the weather warming up and the sun coming out. Many times recently, it has been tempting to hit some of the local trails on the bike. With how full they have become, being the only place a lot of folks can get out and still say close to home. I have been denying myself the enjoyment in favor of safety. I tend to stay home when a lot of riding opportunities surface.
It’s been almost 2 weeks since my ride in Los Gatos, and three weeks since the Shelter In Place order went into effect here in California. The Los Gatos Ride was WAAAY too crowded for my taste, and I’m going nuts not being able to ride.
On a rare sunny day in early March, I took a few hours to run out to my local trailhead and shake things up just a little bit. I reversed the direction of my typical ride and got humbled by climbing up my “downhill” trail.
I won’t lie – it’s been a rough week. We have experienced several family tragedies, and my time is tight. (Thank you all for the well wishes, I really to appreciate all the positive feelings!) It’s been tough to get out on the bike.
